Lumin education is an award-winning Monta story Early Education nonprofit in Dallas Texas serving children and their parents from pregnancy through age 9 our mission is to transform education by starting young involving parents and creating learning environments to inspire children from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds Lumen is a trailblazer our accessible montuori model has led to numerous shifts in the Texas Early Education land Cape since 1978 Lumen was the first organization to open a monteur school in Dallas available to all children regardless of income or ability open a pregnancy to Age 3 home visiting program in Dallas open a public montuori charter school in Texas open a montuori Early Head Start program in Texas and coordinate a Statewide effort resulting in Texas's first Montour advocacy UNAM profit Lumen montuori classrooms which serve children ages 18 months through 9 years old are led by highly trained teachers who create beautifully equipped nurturing and inspiring learning environments our students develop a strong foundation and executive functioning social emotional and academic skills our 3year montuori curriculum appeals to each child's naturally emerging skills and interests and allows children to explore areas of interest and depth and at their own pace since children learn better when they are engaged lumens reading Intervention Program ensures that children especially those who are English language Learners or have learning differences such as dyslexia the individualized attention they need to develop a strong foundation for reading lumin's home visiting program pairs the research-based parents as teachers curriculum with the Montour method for children from pregnancy through Age 3 parent Educators work with parents to feel empowered in their role as their child's first and most important teacher each family receives 2 to 4 home visits per month where parent Educators model learning activities and share personalized age specific Child Development information Lumen offers wraparound services including developmental assessments play therapy and other mental health supports and referrals to services like early intervention food stamps cash assistance and Medicaid to ensure that their basic needs are being met currently Lumen serves approximately 600 children and their families annually 90% are children of color and 78% are children from low-income backgrounds since lumens founding in 1978 we have worked with more than 4,000 children and their caregivers showing that all children can succeed when we start young and involve parents
