Sylvie Fitzgerald, School Director, Lumin Lindsley Park
Hello families,
My name is Sylvie Fitzgerald. I am originally from Togo, a French speaking small country in West Africa. I joined Lumin East Dallas Community School in 2006, as a parent of two children who are now 18 and 20 years old.
I received a bachelor’s degree in communications/Advertising from the Universita’ Per Stranieri in Perugia, Italy and a master’s degree in the Humanities from SMU in Dallas. I also hold AMI Montessori certifications at the 0-3 and 3-6 levels from the Montessori Institute of North Texas. Before taking on the role of School Director at Lumin EDCS, I worked for 15 years in Montessori environments as a classroom assistant, classroom guide, parent educator, Montessori school owner and administrator.
While I have had many work experiences in marketing and public Relations before becoming a Montessori teacher, working with children and their parents is what I enjoy the most. I firmly believe that all children can learn if we start young and provide them with an optimal learning environment. This is why I took the Montessori training for the 0-3 years and taught at that level for over a decade.
I love to dance and am a fanatic of Zumba. I also enjoy learning new languages, bike riding, reading and traveling with my family. My door is always open. Please stop by any time. I am looking forward to getting to know your family!

Before I started working at Lumin, I worked as a teacher for five years at the Spanish School House. My love for early childhood education was born through my experience as a teacher.

When I first started this job, I never would have imagined how rewarding it would be and all that I would learn. Working with the parents and children of this community has filled me with satisfaction and joy.
I love to read, spend time with my husband, daughters, and friends. I also love to cook, especially Mexican food and desserts.

I love to go shopping, listen to music, and admire nature. I also love teaching. Being a teacher means putting a grain of sand in the future because the little ones I teach are the future and they will in turn teach others.
Me mudé a Texas hace diez años.

Laurencia Herrera, Parent Educator
I then began working for the Region XIX Head Start program as a teacher’s aide and then a teacher. While working, I enrolled at NMSU where I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Bilingual Early Childhood Education. In all I worked for Head Start for 21 years.
My husband and I moved to the city of Fort Worth over 10 years ago. For five years I worked as a teacher at “Mi Escuelita” Head Start program in Dallas. Now I feel very fortunate to have found a program like Lumin Bachman Lake Community School, a place where I can continue my passion for teaching. I have worked for five years at Lumin Bachman Lake as a Parent Educator. Through my experience with my own children, I realized that the start and foundation of a child's education begins at home, and that their parents are their first teachers. I am so thankful that I found a program that is interested in empowering families and providing them with the tools to grow and guide their children to a great future.
Outside of work, I like to read and write poetry, watch suspense and horror movies. I love camping and my crazy dog, Teddy.

Charo Alarcon, Montessori Mentor
I am Charo Alarcón. Over the past 30 years, I’ve been part of the Lumin Family in many different capacities, from volunteer parent to toddler guide, parent educator, Early Head Start Montessori toddler classroom supervisor, head of school, and Montessori mentor.
I hold a Montessori Assistant to Infancy diploma from the Montessori Institute of Denver, and a Montessori Elementary diploma from the Center for Montessori Education. The last three decades of my Montessori career have taught me that to support children to reach their full potential, we must first support their parents. I am our Lumin parents’ biggest fan! Listening to parents sharing their parenting joys, successes, and challenges is a favorite part of my workday.
I am a firm believer in the power of mindfulness –which I’ve been practicing for almost as long as I’ve been practicing Montessori— as a helpful tool to fully enjoy the present moment and develop awareness of oneself, others, and our surroundings. I am an avid reader. I love to travel and experience different cultures, and on the weekends, you can find me and my husband looking for the next most wonderful vegan restaurant! 😊
