Terry N. Ford graduated cum laude from Southern Methodist University in 1974 with a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education.  After four years as a bilingual first-grade teacher in the Dallas public schools, she worked with parents and another teacher to open a school for eight children - sharing donated space with a neighborhood methadone clinic - in response to concerns of neighborhood parents who saw their children falling through the cracks in their neighborhood school, branded “failures” as early as second grade.  For the past four decades, Terry and her team have worked relentlessly to implement the philosophy of “Start Young, Involve Parents”.

Hello families,

My name is Sylvie Fitzgerald. I am originally from Togo, a French speaking small country in West Africa.  I joined Lumin East Dallas Community School in 2006, as a parent of two children who are now 18 and 20 years old.

I received a bachelor’s degree in communications/Advertising from the Universita’ Per Stranieri in Perugia, Italy and a master’s degree in the Humanities from SMU in Dallas.  I also hold AMI Montessori certifications at the 0-3 and 3-6 levels from the Montessori Institute of North Texas. Before taking on the role of School Director at Lumin EDCS, I worked for 15 years in Montessori environments as a classroom assistant, classroom guide, parent educator, Montessori school owner and administrator.

While I have had many work experiences in marketing and public Relations before becoming a Montessori teacher, working with children and their parents is what I enjoy the most. I firmly believe that all children can learn if we start young and provide them with an optimal learning environment. This is why I took the Montessori training for the 0-3 years and taught at that level for over a decade.

I love to dance and am a fanatic of Zumba. I also enjoy learning new languages, bike riding, reading and traveling with my family. My door is always open. Please stop by any time. I am looking forward to getting to know your family!

My journey at Lumin Education began 30 years ago!  I have served in many areas throughout the school during my time here. I have spent time in the Primary classroom, as well as the Infant/Toddler classroom.  I have also been a Parent Educator.

Now a little about my personal life outside of school.  I’m happily married to my high school sweetheart, Enrique, and together we have three beautiful daughters: Elaine, Evelyn, and Elyssia. All three daughters attended Lumin Education and I truly enjoyed their time there. In my spare time, I love to spend time with my family, especially my one and only granddaughter, Yselle. I love quick runs to Starbucks, trying new restaurants, going on vacations, and most importantly, spending time with my whole family.

Hello everyone!

daughters who attend Lumin. Our oldest daughter has just started her first year in Primary and our
youngest kindergarten. We are also very excited to welcome our son next month. For 10 years I worked
as a personal assistant and enjoyed it very much once I became a mother, I knew this was not for me.
When my husband visited the school campus and learned more about Montessori, and felt like family,
we knew this was for us. My daughters started school in August 2021, and I decided to join Lumin as well
and it was the best decision of all. I'm the elementary art teacher at Lumin Lindsley Park Community

My passion has always been to help others. I love spending time with my family, walking in the park, and
having movie nights. I also enjoy working with my Cricut machine creating shirts, mugs, cardboard
flowers and much more.

Hello parents, my name is Diana Aranda. I am originally from the state of Morelos in Mexico, but I have lived in Dallas for five years now. Throughout my professional life, I have focused on working in communities, helping to spread the importance of health prevention to the child population. I am a communications technician, with a degree in human nutrition and currently certified as a home visitor for EHS. In Mexico I worked for five years in the community with DIF as well as in the health caravans. I always focused on carrying out activities, games, talks, conferences, presentations, healthy cooking classes and even puppet theater for primary school children in rural communities in the state. My aim was to help them learn to take care of their health and train them as small promoters to help spread this knowledge to their families, and thus prevent diseases at the community level and then to the general population.
I have always felt inclined to work in order to help and leave a grain of sand in the community. I have been working at Lumin for almost two years and it makes me very happy to keep supporting children and their families in the development of their children. I continue to learn from each one of them and support them so that their children improve in their development and can reach their greatest potential. I am passionate about nature; I love being in contact with it whenever I can. I like to meditate, read, dance, travel, meet people and always learn a little about everything.

At an early age I realized my calling as a teacher and I was able to first begin teaching with my own children. I began my career in education working in the El Paso Independent School District for six years. I then volunteered for two years in the Head Start program which motivated me to go back to school where I graduated with an associate degree in Child development and Special Education.
I then began working for the Region XIX Head Start program as a teacher’s aide and then a teacher. While working, I then enrolled at NMSU where I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Bilingual Early Childhood Education. In all I worked for Head Start for 21 years.
My husband and I moved to the city of Fort Worth over 10 years ago of which five of them I worked as a teacher at “Mi Escuelita” Head Start program in Dallas. Now I feel very fortunate to have found a program like Lumin Bachman Lake Community School, a place where I could continue my passion for teaching.  I have worked for five years at Lumin Bachman Lake as a Parent Educator.  Through my experience with my own children, I realized that the start and foundation of a child's education begins at home, and that their parents are their first teachers. I am so thankful that I found a program that is interested in empowering families and providing them with the tools to grow and guide their children to a great future.
Outside of work, I like to read and write poetry, watch suspense and horror movies, and I love camping and my crazy dog, Teddy.

Hi, my name is Vero Perez. I am currently the Program Supervisor of the MIECHV home visiting program at Lumin Bachman Lake Community School.  I became part of the Lumin family in July 2012 as a Parent Educator and transitioned to Program Supervisor in September 2018. I specialized in Early Childhood Development, and I use that experience to best meet the development needs of the children in our program.
Jane Hull once said, “Guiding parents in knowing that at the end of day, the most overwhelming key to child’s success is the positive involvement of the parent”.  My time here at Lumin Education includes seeking the best for the children and guiding our parents to be the best parents for their children. I enjoy showing parents that the home is the child’s first school, and they are their child’s first teacher.

My name is Aurolina Valdes. I have been working for almost 13 years at Bachman Lake Community School as the Mental Health Consultant and consider this job to be the most rewarding one I have ever had. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, every day I get to hear amazing stories of resilience, strength, and people overcoming adversity. I feel honored that people trust me with their life experiences and allow me to be part of their healing journey.  I am grateful that Lumin Education understands the importance of mental health and makes my services available to the families at BLCS.
I have a master's degree in Family Therapy from St. Thomas University in Miami, FL. I have been in this field for 25 years and I am licensed to practice Family Therapy in both Florida and Texas.
On the personal side, my husband and I have experienced the ups and downs of life together for almost 35 years. We met in college and dated for 5 fun years, got married in 1994, moved to Miami, FL in 1996 and became the proud parents of twin sons in 2000. We now get to enjoy them as independent adults while we wonder about and try to support the ups and downs of their own lives.
I love to travel; I love to learn languages and I love to read (although to be honest Netflix is absorbing more and more of my time).

Aurolina Valdés, Especialista en Salud Mental
Me llamo Aurolina Valdés.
Me encanta viajar, aprender idiomas y leer.

I am Charo Alarcón. Over the past 30 years, I’ve been part of the Lumin Family in many different capacities, from volunteer parent to toddler guide, parent educator, Early Head Start Montessori toddler classroom supervisor, head of school, and Montessori mentor.

I hold a Montessori Assistant to Infancy diploma from the Montessori Institute of Denver, and a Montessori Elementary diploma from the Center for Montessori Education. The last three decades of my Montessori career have taught me that to support children to reach their full potential, we must first support their parents. I am our Lumin parents’ biggest fan! Listening to parents sharing their parenting joys, successes, and challenges is a favorite part of my workday.

I am a firm believer in the power of mindfulness –which I’ve been practicing for almost as long as I’ve been practicing Montessori— as a helpful tool to fully enjoy the present moment and develop awareness of oneself, others, and our surroundings. I am an avid reader. I love to travel and experience different cultures, and on the weekends, you can find me and my husband looking for the next most wonderful vegan restaurant! 😊

My name is Bridgette Bennett, and I first came to Lumin as a parent in 1994.  The following year I joined Lumin’s Development Department, then moved to the Operations Department where I have been a part of the Accounting Team for the past 23 years.  Both of my children graduated from Lumin so I know firsthand the impact our community can have on our students, and I am so glad to be a part of it!

Away from work, I enjoy being with my family, watching movies, cooking and baking, and traveling with my husband whenever I can.

My name is Becki Hardie.  After serving as campus director at Lumin Lindsley Park Community School for the past seven years, I am happy to continue supporting Lumin as Special Projects Manager.

Following the completion of a business degree at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., I worked in business for a number of years before discovering Montessori education.  I have AMI Montessori certifications at the Primary (ages 3 – 6) and Elementary (ages 6 – 12) levels, as well as a NAMTA certification for the early adolescent ages 12 – 15). I have had the pleasure of working with children from ages 3 years old through 8th grade, as well as serving as head of school.  I believe that there is no better educational start for a young child than a Montessori education.  Also, of great importance are engaging and supporting parents who are their children’s first teachers.

In my free time, I enjoy Pilates and horseback riding, including working with children on horseback, as well as time with friends and family.

East Dallas Home Visiting
I was born and raised in San Jose, Costa Rica.  Thirteen years ago, I married my husband, Jonathan, and moved to Dallas.  We have two daughters.

I have a bachelor’s degree in special education, emphasis in Emotional and Behavioral Problems. I have worked with autistic children and their families.  I began at Lumin Education as a Mom, in the P-3 Program. Six months later I started as a Parent Educator in 2012.  I love my job! I love to serve families and interact with children.  I can’t believe I have been working here at Lumin for almost eleven years. Time flies!  I’ve had the opportunity to earn my AMI Birth to Three Assistants Course Certificate from the Montessori Institute of North Texas.  Also, I earned the First 3 Years Endorsement for Culturally Sensitive, Relationship-focused Practice Promoting Infant Mental Health as an Infant Family Specialist.  I like to be at home with my husband and girls and like to serve others in my local Church.

I have been a part of Lumin since 2005, when my son started in Primary. The next year I joined
as a Primary classroom assistant and after 5 years, I transferred to Parent Education for
pregnancy to age three.  I knew a little about this program because I had participated in it with
my youngest.

As the supervisor for Lumin’s East Dallas Home-Visiting program, I have the privilege of
overseeing a small group of talented parent educators. I am endorsed by the Texas
Association for Infant Mental Health as an Infant-Family Specialist and enjoy continued
learning as research helps us to better understand ways to support families.
I was born and raised in the Seattle area where I met my husband, Alex.  I moved to Dallas, his
hometown, in 1997.  We have three adult children, my youngest just recently graduated from
high school.  I enjoy listening to books, doing word puzzles, cooking, riding my bike and
working in my garden.

Me
I have been in this role and with Lumin for a year and a half. I love my job because I get to connect with families and children in a different capacity compared to anyway I have before. I love getting to know each family and their individual qualities and insights to their family and parenting styles and goals. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my son, going to concerts and art shows, trying new restaurants, and time spent outside.
