Fatherhood Program
Lumin Education's Fatherhood Program is a supportive community dedicated to empowering fathers of all ages and those fulfilling the father role at home. Our program offers a unique blend of virtual and in-person weekly meetings, where members come together to connect, share experiences, and grow as fathers. Whether you're a first-time dad or a seasoned pro, every father plays a crucial role in shaping their children's lives.
As part of our commitment to enhancing fatherhood, we are thrilled to present "The Fatherhood Podcast" & "El podcast de la paternidad" hosted by Jonathan Avila. Available in both English and Spanish on major platforms like Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Amazon Podcasts, these insightful podcasts delve into a wide range of topics, from parenting tips and strategies to self-development and building strong, loving relationships with our children. We also take pride in our unique series focused on guiding moms on how to actively involve dads in their children's lives, fostering a supportive and nurturing family dynamic.
Join Lumin Education's Fatherhood Program today, and embark on an enriching journey of personal growth, camaraderie, and shared experiences with fellow fathers, as we strive to create a positive impact on our children's lives and our families as a whole. Together, let's build a brighter future for the next generation, one father at a time.

Play Therapy
A key to our students’ success is the emphasis on social-emotional well-being. Children will face many challenges in their growing years, some being adverse childhood experiences, which may be traumatic. A child may also be adversely affected by the birth of a sibling, separation from parents, and the death of a parent or grandparent. Any of these stresses may then manifest themselves in poor academic performance, social withdrawal, or other challenging or disruptive behaviors.
Our playtimes program addresses these emotional stresses through the relationship with an interested, empathetic, and specially trained adult who utilizes evidence based strategies. During playtimes children have the opportunity to communicate their feelings and concerns, both verbally through talk and non-verbally through play, in a safe and supportive environment. As children explore and express feelings about themselves and others, as well as their experiences, they begin to accept themselves and their feelings more fully and grow in genuine self-esteem. As more adaptive ways of dealing with the demands of school or home emerge, some of the maladaptive behaviors begin to lessen and children are better able to succeed in all aspects of their life.

At Lumin, we have a therapy dog we can use as needed. Animals can often make an instant connection with children where adults can’t. They engage children in the therapy process in a very non-threatening way and help to overcome resistance to engaging in the therapy process. For children, toys are their words and play is their language. Animals can’t talk-so they not only help us teach children how to pick up on non-verbal communication cues, but they help establish trust and build rapport in the playroom. Research has shown the effectiveness of play therapy as well as the use of animals for treating children with a variety of difficulties. The benefits of having an animal in the playroom include: improving social skills and confidence, enhancing a child’s self-esteem, promotes expression of feelings, fosters healthy attachment relationships with animals and people, and so much more!
Mindfulness
Today’s teachers and students carry so much on their shoulders. Meeting academic and social expectations while developing a sense of self and belonging is challenging. The pressures in today’s educational and societal environments reach far beyond the basics. At Lumin, we use Mindfulness as a response that addresses the overall health and sustainability of our learning environments and supports the well-being of every educator, student, and member of our school community. Mindfulness is a way of supporting our students and educators so that they can not only survive, but thrive. Our staff is trained in mindfulness practices in order to implement effective ways to help our students develop awareness of their emotional process and explore different mindfulness tools and practices to nurture their emotional life while providing them with supportive relationships and positive learning environments.
B4Six
Lumin places a special emphasis on programs for children ages 0-5 (B4Six) since the first five years of life have the greatest impact on a child's development. B4Six programs refer to all of Lumin's programs that focus on the pregnancy - age 3 and primary classroom age ranges.
